Our Lessons

We hold dances monthly September through April (with a break for the holidays in December). Regular Dances are on the 4th Saturday. We’re hosting a Community Dance Party on Sunday June 2nd. See our Event Schedule for more information about our dances.

Why learn to Square Dance? Modern Square Dance has a mix of new and traditional music, is a great way to make friends, laugh a lot, and realize how easy dancing can be. Go here for more things that might surprise you about square dancing. We generally offer one lesson series a year. Lessons are offered throughout the Denver Metro area, as well. Our History

Prairie Stars began in 1979 when someone asked about Bill and Peg Sales’ square dance bumper sticker. They decided to start a club with the help of a caller who made the drive from Golden. That first year, about 20 couples took lessons in the Byers Legion Hall. Dances were held in Byers at first, but eventually moved to Bennett. Membership has varied from around 10 couples to as many as 30 and has survived even through the challenges of COVID with the dedication of volunteer leaders and committed dancers. The club is also grateful for the support of Denver Metro clubs, who have helped fill our dances. The rumor is that Prairie Stars has had amazing Potlucks, too. Here’s to many more years of dancing and good food.
